Four Drivers Set to Battle for 2020 Championship
Salem, IN. (October 5, 2020) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will close out their 10th season of points competition this Friday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, helping kickoff the big 49th Annual Winchester 400 Presented by JEGS. A strong group of Pro late Model drivers are currently entered to compete in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Friday evening. That event will be the eighth point’s event of the 2020 season for the series after having several events cancelled and rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
2020 was the fourth season CRA has used the Chase for the Championship format to crown their Champions in four of its series. Eight drivers were locked into the final four JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Chase for the Championship events. The first Chase event at Lebanon I-44 Speedway was won by series Regular Season Champion Cody Coughlin, the 2013 and 2016 series Champion. The second Chase event at Lucas Oil Raceway was won by series Chase competitor Travis Braden, the 2013 and 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion. The third Chase event at Bristol Motor Speedway was won by Chase driver Josh Brock, the 2018 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion. Series competitors Mandy Chick, Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year points leader Chase Burda, fellow rookie Zachary Tinkle and Trever McCoy were eliminated after the Bristol Motor Speedway Chase event as the four lowest in Chase points after the first three events, giving four drivers a shot to win the 2020 series Championship.
The four drivers racing for the Championship on Friday includes Chase event winners Coughlin, Braden, and Brock. The fourth driver is 14-year-old Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year candidate Charlie Keeven, who got in as the highest non-Chase event winner in points after the Bristol event. Keeven got a series high second place finish in the Bristol event to help him earn the fourth and final position for the Championship event. The driver finishing the highest of those four in Friday’s Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be crowned the 2020 series Champion. All eight of the original Chase drivers are entered for Friday’s event.
Braden comes in as a five-time winner of this event. Braden won this event in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017 and again in 2019. The 2016 Winchester 400 winner has eight total series wins and is the only driver to win this event more than one time. Braden is also the defending Snowball Derby winner.
Coughlin and Brock tied for the most series wins in 2020, both came away with two victories apiece. Coughlin was a two-time winner with the ARCA/CRA Super Series in 2020. Both Coughlin and Brock are seeking duel CRA Championships in 2020, both drivers are also in the final four drivers competing for the 2020 ARCA/CRA Super Series Championship in the 49th Annual Winchester 400.
Florida native Stephen Nasse is entered and comes in as one of the favorites for Friday’s race and Sunday’s 400 after sweeping both the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and the ARCA/CRA Super Series 100 lap events on Labor Day Weekend at Winchester last year and winning last year’s 48th Annual Winchester 400.
Other top CRA drivers entered for Friday’s series event includes 2018 Winchester series event winner Wes Griffith Jr., 2013 Winchester series event winner Corey Deuser, 2018 Winchester World Stock Car Festival event winner Mason Keller, Jennerstown Motor Speedway 2020 Champion Albert Francis, ARCA/CRA Super Series all-time starts leader and former Winchester ARCA/CRA Super Series winner Rick Turner, 2019 series event winner Kyle Jones, James Krueger, Brian Demland, Billy Van Meter, Jonathan Martin, Colby Lane, and J.P. Crabtree.
Things begin for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour with the 49th Annual Winchester 400 Presented by JEGS with an optional open practice on Thursday, October 8th. Pits open at 10am, open practice for all Winchester 400 divisions will go from 12noon until 5pm.
Pit gates open on Friday, October 9th at 8am. Practice will begin at 11am with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour getting two 45 minutes practice sessions. Racing action is scheduled to begin at 4pm on Friday and will include JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Jerico Performance Products qualifying and the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS Season Championship event for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Also racing on Friday will be the Vore’s Compact Touring Series in eight lap heat races and a 30-lap feature and the Thunder Roadsters with a 20-lap feature event. There will be a concert after the racing events on Friday, more details on that will be announced soon.
