7-UP 200 Opens Toledo Speedway Season This SaturdayScott Menlen
ARCA Racing Story – Toledo, Ohio (April 9, 2016) – Saturday, April 9-just 1 week prior to the scheduled season-opening 7-Up 200. Nearly 7 inches of snow, along with a covering of ice, slammed the Toledo area and parts to the east and south of the city. Just 12 miles north of the track, there is hardly a trace of the white stuff! (check out the photo at www.toledospeedway.com).
Both of the current entry lists for the 7-Up 200 are located in the next event box on the front page of www.toledospeedway.com. Several additional entries for each division are expected.
The forecast for next weekend is promising (let’s hope they are right!). The Saturday, April 16 show consists of 2-100 lap features for 2 styles of Late Model racing; the stock-bodied ARCA/CRA Super Series Late Models and the outlaw-bodied ARCA Royal Truck and Trailer Gold Cup Late Models.
The weather patterns for the past 3-4 weeks has slowed the efforts of the track staff in preparing the½ mile paved oval for the first race of 2016. A full crew is ready to get to work Monday morning.
Advance ticket buyers for Toledo’s first event of 2016 will be offered the Sunny Media “Good Weather Guarantee”. If the temperature is not at least 55 degrees with no rain at the scheduled 3 p.m.start time, all advance ticket purchasers will be given a free ticket to the next event on Toledo’s schedule, the USAC Silver Crown race Saturday, April 30.
To qualify for this offer, an advance ticket must be purchased prior to 5 p.m. Friday, April 15 for Saturday’s 7-Up 200. Children 6-12 are $3 and under 6 are admitted free of charge. In the event of weather issues, a rain date of Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. has been established.
An optional Friday, April 15 practice session is set for 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 16, the race day schedule has one-hour practice sessions for each class beginning at 10 a.m. Time trials are set for 1 p.m. followed by an on-track driver autograph session. Race time for the 7-Up 200 is 3 p.m.
Toledo’s next event, and the Sunny Media “Good Weather Guarantee” make-good event, is Saturday, April 30. Hemelgarn Racing and Super Fitness present the Rollie Beale Classic, featuring a 100 lap feature for the USAC Silver Crown Cars. A non-wing Sprint Car program will serve as the support division for this event. Race time on April 30 is 6 p.m. A $5 discount for advance tickets is also being offered for the April 30 show.
