JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour at Columbus Motor Speedway Saturday
Salem, IN (May 25, 2016) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will head to Columbus Motor Speedway, located in Columbus, Ohio this Saturday for the Memorial100 Presented by JEGS.com. The event will be the second race of the 2016 season for the crate motor template bodied series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association Powered by JEGS after its season opening Master of the Pros event at Lebanon I-44 Speedway on May 14th that was won by John Hunter Nemechek.
Saturday’s event will be part of Columbus Motor Speedway’s 71st Anniversary Season and its last, as the track will close for good at the end of the 2016 season. Saturday’s event will be the 6th event the series has had at Columbus. Jimmy Carter won the first event in 2011. Chad Finley won the 2012 and 2013 events. Hunter Baize won the 2014 event, while Josh Nelms got the victory in last season’s event.
The 30 car entry list for Saturday night’s event has plenty of talent and will have a first time Columbus series winner, as none of the previous winners are entered for the event. 2013 series Champion Cody Coughlin is entered, the ARCA/CRA Super Series point’s leader after four events with three straight victories, is from nearby Delaware, Ohio. Coughlin also has two JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour victories to his credit. The Joe Gibbs Development driver is competing part-time with the NASCAR Camping World Truck series in 2016 for Kyle Busch Motorsports.
2013 and 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Travis Braden is entered, driving for 2015 series Car Owner Champion Bill Burba, who is also entered in a team car. 2014 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Dan Leeck is entered to make his season debut with the series. Also entered is 2015 series Rookie of the Year Quinnton Bear, who will be driving for Scott Neal Racing, the car owner for 2015 series Driver Champion Dalton Armstrong.
Other top CRA drivers entered include Trevor Berry, who is the highest driver entered in 2016 series points after an awesome season opening event at Lebanon I-44 Speedway. Also entered is Jack Smith, winner of three of the last four series events at the end of the 2015 season, local favorite Brandon Oakley, an ARCA/CRA Super Series past winner, 12 time Kalamazoo Speedway Champion Andy Bozell and his son Phil, also a former Kalamazoo Champion, Dakota Stroup who will be crew chiefed by Columbus legend Gary St. Amant, Austin Kunert, Jerry Andrews, Eric Lee a series past winner, Tristen Van Wieringen, D.J. Weltmeyer, David McManus, Jeff Cannon, and Ben Welch.
A great group of VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie of the Year candidates is entered lead by Travis Eddy, son of former ASA National Tour Champion Mike Eddy. Eddy will compete in the JVM Racing car based out of nearby Lewis Center, Ohio. Other rookies entered include Michael Clancy Jr., winner of the JEGS Challenge event at Lebanon I-44 Speedway, Hope Hornish, niece of NASCAR and Indy car driver Sam Horish Jr., Kevin Zelezinski, Joshua James, Adam Johnson, Jared Thomas, Jack Dossey Jr. and Clarity Newhouse.
A couple of talented local drivers are also entered, David Carter, who has already been to victory lane at Columbus this season in their Late Model division and multi time Columbus winner and former Track Champion Chad Pendleton. Carter will be in a team car to Eddy with JVM Racing.
There will be an open practice on Friday, pit gates open at 4pm with practice going from 5 to 8pm. On Saturday pit gates will open for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour teams at 12:30pm. Practice will begin at 3pm with qualifying for the series at 6:15pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the Memorial 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. Also racing on Saturday night will be the Columbus Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Stocks and Compacts.
