CRA Late Model Sportsman and CRA Street Stocks at Lucas Oil Raceway Friday Night
Salem, IN (July 5, 2016) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS and the CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will return to action this Friday night in the second of three Friday night events at Lucas Oil Raceway this season. The “Stock car nights under the lights” at Lucas Oil Raceway will feature racing action from both CRA divisions and the Vore’s Compact Touring Series (VCTS) with heat races and features each night. The third and final date for the “Stock car nights under the lights” at the historic 0.686-mile oval located in Brownsburg, Indiana, just West of Indianapolis, will be Friday, August 12th.
Friday’s event will be the fifth event of the season for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman. CRA veteran’s Eddie Van Meter and Terry Fisher Jr. have each scored two victories apiece so far this season, Van Meter in the season opening Cabin Fever event at Lucas Oil Raceway on April 3rd and at Anderson Speedway at the series last event on June 18th. Fisher got the win at the series event at Anderson Speedway on April 16th and at the series last Lucas Oil Raceway event on May 6th. Fisher Jr. comes into Friday’s event leading the series Championship points by just one over Van Meter. Shaw Amor is in third place, he is only 10 points behind Van Meter. Tony Brutti is in fourth place, he is 21 points behind Amor. Rookie Brandon Barcus is in fifth place, eight points behind Brutti.
Amor and Van Meter are tied for the lead in the Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge. Fisher Jr. is in third, two points behind the leaders. Barcus is in fourth, seven points behind Fisher Jr., with Keith Lyons in fifth place, two points behind Barcus.
The Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge will consist of the five events scheduled at Lucas Oil Raceway for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, including the April 3rd Cabin Fever event, the three “Stock car nights under the lights” events and the CRA Fall Brawl event on September 25th. The driver getting the most points in the five events will be the Champion of the Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge and will receive a $1000 cash bonus from Lyons Truck & Trailer. The driver finishing second in the Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge will receive a $500 cash bonus from Lyons Truck & Trailer. The Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge Points Champion will be honored at the 2016 CRA Awards Banquet.
Friday’s event will be the seventh event of the season for the CRA Street Stocks, Phil Jenkins is the series Season Championship point’s leader after the series’ first six events of the season. Jenkins lead has grown to 39 points over James Kirby III heading into Friday night’s event. Mason Keller is in third place, he is 10 points behind Kirby III. Andrew Teepe is in fourth place after recording a series high second place finish in the series last event, the Anderson 200 on June 25th, he is 19 points behind Keller. Rookie Justin Oberlin is in fifth place, he is 16 points behind Teepe.
Jason Atkinson won the Anderson 200 on June 25th, the last event of the 2016 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series, Brett Hudson was crowned the 2016 Triple Crown Series Champion. Other series event winners in 2016 include Josh Poore in the Shady Bowl Speedway 200 lap Triple Crown event on April 23rd and at Anderson Speedway on May 14th, Chuck Barnes Jr. in the Kentucky Motor Speedway 200 lap Triple Crown event on May 29th, Austin Coe at Lucas Oil Raceway on May 6th and Jeff Lane winner of the April 3rd series season opener at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Pit Gates will open on Friday at 5pm, with practice/qualifying beginning at 6:30pm. The race program is set to begin at 7:45 and will include 8 lap heat races and 30 lap features for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman and CRA Street Stocks. The Vores Compact Touring Series will have 8 lap heats and a 20 lap feature.
General admission adult tickets for Friday will be $15, kids 12 and under will get in free. The event will feature free parking. A $20 ticket upgrade will be available for indoor seating to watch from a skybox. Skyboxes do not include catering. Pit Passes are $30 for drivers and crew.
