Colby Lane Wins Second Straight CRA Street Stock Event of the Season at Winchester Speedway
Salem, IN (September 5, 2016) – Knightstown, Indiana native Colby Lane figured he was going to finish in third until some late race contact between first and second place runners Jeff Lane, Colby’s father, and Mason Keller, opened the door for Colby to pass both and get his second straight CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS win of the season Monday afternoon on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway.
“I thought I was just going to ride and get a third place finish there,” remarked Lane in victory lane. “I saw my dad and Mason start getting rough battling for the lead, and then they both slowed after Mason got into dad pretty hard and I was able to go low and pass them both to get the lead. It’s really cool to get the win here at Winchester!”
Brian Hopkins took the lead at the drop of the green flag from his pole starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Jeff Lane drew a seven for the events invert. Hopkins continued to lead while Mason Keller and Jeff Lane worked their way to the front. Keller was able to get by Hopkins on lap 15 to get the lead. Jeff Lane would soon follow and started to track down Keller. Lane managed to slide in front of Keller with some slight contact to grab the lead on lap 33, but Keller would retaliate with more hard contact into the rear of Jeff Lane, who made an amazing save to keep the car from spinning, but both slowed to keep from wrecking, which allowed Colby Lane to get by to grab the lead and the win.
Jeff Lane would hold on to finish in second. Keller would battle James Kirby III to the line to grab third with Kirby III in fourth. Gordon Watson Jr. would finish in fifth place. Points leader Phil Jenkins had a late race motor issue but was able to limb around for an 11th place finish. Second in points Andrew Teepe had his day end early after suffering heavy right front damage after contact with the wall.
