Salem, IN (August 21, 2017) – Ft. Wayne racer Austin Coe came away with the win in Saturday night’s 50 lap feature for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS at Baer Field Motorsports Park, located just south of Ft. Wayne. Coe, a regular competitor at Baer Field in its Late Model Sportsman division, picked up his first series win of the 2017 season after winning three series events in 2016, all at Lucas Oil Raceway.
“It feels great to win here at my home track in front of all these fans,” remarked Coe in victory lane. “I got my late Grand Pa’s name on this car, I feel like he was riding with me tonight, this wins for him. Have to thank my family and my crew for all their support and thank all our Coe Nation fans for coming out tonight to watch us go to victory lane!”
It was a Coe Nation sweep on Saturday night as Terry Fisher Jr. got the win in the earlier Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman 50 lap feature for the Coe Motorsports Team.
James Kirby III got the early lead from his outside front row starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier and new track record holder Jake Hinton drew a five for the events inverted start. Kirby led the first nine laps until Coe made his way to Kirby’s back bumper and was able to make the pass on lap 10 to get the lead. From there Coe just had to fight off Baer Field regular Bobby Comer to get the win on a couple of restarts. Coe stretched out his lead at the end of the race to win by almost five seconds.
Comer was the top Baer Field Street Stock regular with his second place finish. Danny Adams was the highest finisher of the teams in the series Championship Chase Owners Points, it was his second straight top five finish and his best series finish to date after starting ninth. J.J. Schafer debuted a new car with a fourth place finish and was the second highest finishing Championship Chase driver. Derrick Layne came from his eighth place starting position to finish in fifth, the third highest finisher of the teams in the series Championship Chase Owners Points.
Championship Chase contenders Thomas Skiles and Andrew Teepe finished sixth and seventh. Local racer Frank Casagrande finished in eighth, series rookie Tory Lutz was ninth, while Pennsylvania native Bill Ashton rounded out the top 10. The other Championship Chase Contenders finishes were Corey Adams in 11th, Colby Lane in 14th and Kirby III in 16th.
The Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks will be back in action on Monday, September 4th on the High Banks of Winchester Speedway as part of the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival. That event will be the second event of the series Championship Chase.
