CRA Street Stock Championship Chase Begins Saturday at Baer Field Motorsports Park
Salem, IN (August 16, 2017) – The Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will be back in action this Saturday at Baer Field Motorsports Park, located just south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Saturday’s event will begin the first ever Championship Chase for the series as it looks to crown its 2017 Champion. In the next three series events eight teams will compete against each other to determine who the final four will be that will race to decide the series 2017 Champion at Winchester Speedway on October 7th.
Saturday’s event will be the series seventh all time event at Baer Field Motorsports Park, Brian Hopkins won the first series event at Baer Field in 2006 and won the series last event there in 2011. Other series winners at Bear Field include Steve Christman twice in 2007, Bret Miles Jr. in 2008 and Winston Wood in 2009.
Saturday’s event will be the ninth point’s event of the season for the CRA Street Stocks. Chuck Barnes Jr. has won five of the first eight events, including the Four Crown events at Shadybowl Speedway, Kentucky Motor Speedway and at Winchester Speedway, the series last event on August 5th. He also got wins in the Cabin Fever event on April 2nd at Lucas Oil Raceway and in the EDCO 50 at the Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway on May 20th. Brett Hudson won the Four Crown Anderson 200 and the series event at Salem Speedway on June 4th. Josh Poore got the win at the series first Anderson Speedway event of the season on May 7th.
Hudson is the series Championship point’s leader heading into Saturday night’s event. Chuck Barnes Jr. is in second place, he is 51 points behind Hudson. Andrew Teepe is in third place, he is 10 points behind Barnes Jr. James Kirby is in fourth place, he is nine points behind Teepe. Josh Brading is in fifth place, he is 17 points behind Kirby. Barnes Jr. and Brading have already notified CRA officials that they will not be competing in the Championship Chase.
Besides, Hudson, Teepe and Kirby, the other series Team Owners in Chase positions with a win or owner points include the #27 Poore, #57 David Stewart, #44 Jeff Lane, #54 Wendell Layne, and #29 Steve Keller. Drivers in Driver Point Chase positions heading into Saturday besides, Hudson, Teepe and Kirby include the #27 Poore, #57 Daniel Adams, #44 Colby Lane, #29 Mason Keller and #23 Thomas Skiles.
Several local Street Stock teams that race at Baer Field Motorsports Park are expected to compete against the CRA regulars Saturday night for bragging rights!
There is an open practice Friday at Baer Field Motorsports Park from 5 to 8pm. Pit Gates open on Saturday at 1:30pm. The first of two practice sessions is set to begin at 3pm for the CRA Street Stocks. Qualifying is set to begin at 6pm. The race program will begin at 7:05pm and will include a 50 lap feature on the 3/8’s mile track for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks. Also racing Saturday night will be the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS, as well as the Baer Field Front Wheel drives, Open Wheel Modifieds and Mini Stocks.
