Raintree 100 at Mt. Lawn Speedway up Next for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman
Speed51.com to Showcase Event with Special Monday Night National Broadcast
Salem, IN (June 28, 2018) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will be back in action this this Sunday at Mt. Lawn Speedway, located in New Castle, IN. The series has the honor of helping revive a Central Indiana tradition in the Raintree 100, which was ran at Mt. Lawn Speedway from 1971 through the 2013 season and will now take center stage at Mt. Lawn again for the first time since racing returned to the track in 2016 after a two-year layoff.
Many of Indiana’s greatest racers have stood in victory lane for this prestigious event, in all 24 drivers have won the 43 Raintree 100’s to date. New Castle’s own Harold Scott has the most Raintree 100 victories with five total. L.J. Lines and Rick Rhonemus are tied for second with four victories apiece. William Mefford and Bob Fields have three victories apiece. Dave Duncan, Rodney Scott, Gerald Hinshaw, Scott Hinshaw and Jeff Marcum have two victories apiece. The last winner was 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Jack Dossey III in 2013. Duncan and Marcum are the only former event winners who are expected to compete in Sunday’s Raintree 100.
Sunday’s Raintree 100 will be the first event in the new Triple Crown Series for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, which will feature three 100-lap, $2000 to win events, and a points fund that will pay the Triple Crown Champion $1000. There will also be 2 random draw winners for $500 each from all teams that have attended all three Triple Crown events. The Triple Crown Series other two events will be at Anderson Speedway on July 14th and the Championship event at Baer Field Motorsports Park on August 4th.
Adding to the excitement of the event is the addition of Speed51 being on hand to tape the event for a special national broadcast the very next evening at 8pm. This will mark the first time the Late Model Sportsman have been featured as the headliner for a broadcast of this nature. “This will be great for fans and racers alike,” noted CRA’s R. J. The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS kicked off their 2018 season at Mt. Lawn Speedway, on May 27th were Danny Trent went to victory lane after early leader Dave Duncan and second place Shawn Amor got together with both cars suffering damage that ended their nights. Trent went on to get the victory over series rookie Chris Shannon. The series second event of the second was contested last Saturday night at Baer Field Motorsports Park were local driver Tommy Cook took the win over Terry Fisher Jr.
Shannon comes into Sunday’s event as the series point’s leader. Amor, the series 2017 Mt. Lawn event winner, is in second, he is seven points behind Shannon. Fellow rookie Zachary Tinkle is in third place, he is four points behind Amor. Tony Brutti is in fourth place, he is six points behind Tinkle. Neil McClelland is in fifth place, he is 20 points behind Brutti. All the top five in points are expected to race in Sunday’s event.
Other top drivers expected to compete in Sunday’s Raintree 100 include season opener winner Danny Trent, 2017 Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Drivers Champion KC Spillers, 2016 series Champion Eddie Van Meter, 2014 series Champion Greg VanAlst, 2007 series Champion Billy Hutson, multi-time series winner Terry Fisher Jr., and 2017 Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stock Champion Colby Lane, son of 1997 event winner Jeff Lane.
There is an open practice at Mt. Lawn Speedway on Saturday from noon until 6pm. Pit Gates open on Sunday at noon. The CRA Late Model Sportsman will have two practice sessions, a 45-minute session at 2pm and a 25-minute session at 3:20pm. Allstar Performance Qualifying is set to begin at 4:45pm. The race program will begin at 6pm and will include the Raintree 100 for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS. Also racing Sunday will be the Mt. Lawn Thunder Cars, Pro Compacts, Stock Compacts and Caged Carts.
