CRA Street Stock Five Crown Series Championship Event at Mt. Lawn Speedway Saturday
First Event at Mt. Lawn Since 2010
Salem, IN (August 22, 2018) – The Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will return to Mt. Lawn Speedway, located in New Castle, Indiana this Saturday for the rescheduled Bob Fields Memorial 200, which was originally scheduled for May 6th, but was postponed because of weather. Mt. Lawn Speedway will have a special Saturday night show this weekend, the track normally does a special event schedule of Sunday afternoons.
Sunday’s Bob Fields Memorial 200 will be the first series event at Mt. Lawn Speedway since July 17th, 2010 were local driver Jason Atkinson took the win. In all there have been five series events total at Mt. Lawn, other winners include Joe Beaver with two wins, including the series’ first ever event at Mt. Lawn in 2006 as well as Jeff Lane and Jason Thompson with one win a piece.
Saturday’s Bob Fields Memorial 200 will be the Championship event for the 2018 CRA Street Stock Five Crown Series, which featured five 200 lap, $3000 minimum to win events. The first Five Crown event was April 21st, at Shadybowl Speedway were Brett Hudson took the dominating win. The second was at Anderson Speedway on June 16th were Josh Poore got the win. The third event was canceled because of weather at Kentucky Motor Speedway on July 22nd. The fourth event was at Winchester Speedway on August 5th were James Kirby III got the win.
In addition to the $3000 minimum to win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the five events who will receive a $1000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $600 bonus, third place a $400 bonus, then there will be two $250 bonuses from a random draw from the cars that attended all five events. Each Five Crown event winner and the overall Champion will receive a specially designed buckle from Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing.
Jacob McElfresh leads the Five Crown points after the first four events. James Kirby III is in second place, he is 18 points behind McElfresh. Brian Hopkins is in third place, he is only two points behind Kirby III. Nathan Greene is in fourth place, he is 24 points behind Hopkins. Hudson is in fifth place, he is six points behind Greene.
Sunday’s event will be the eighth full point’s event of the season for the CRA Street Stocks. Other winners besides Hudson, Poore and Kirby III in the Five Crown Series events include Chuck Barnes Jr., who won his second straight EDCO 50 at the Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway on May 20th, Blake Hillard who won the series event on June 3rd at Salem Speedway, Jake Hinton who got his first ever CRA win at the series event on June 30th at Baer Field Motorsports Park and Andrew Teepe, who won his first ever CRA event last Saturday night at Anderson Speedway.
A new Chase format to determine a series champion was first successfully used in all CRA divisions in 2017 and is being used again for the 2018 season. Similar to the top levels of racing now and all major sports, CRA will utilize a regular season of events to determine those who are eligible to compete in the post season Chase for a championship. Saturday’s event is the last regular season event before the final four Chase events to determine the 2018 series Champion.
Prior to the start of the final four races, the top eight teams in wins (then points) that have attended 70% of the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks events are eligible for the Chase. The series events at Winchester Speedway on September 3rd, Anderson Speedway on September 15th and Lucas Oil Raceway on September 30th will determine the final four teams that will race in the October 13th series event for the 2018 series Championship on Winchester 400 Weekend. Prior to the October 13th event the top four Chase Teams in wins (the points) during the three Chase events prior will be the final four to compete for the Championship.
Heading into Saturday night’s regular season finally Hudson, Kirby III and Teepe with their victories and attendance to date are locked into the top eight teams to start the Chase. Right now current series points leader Jacob McElfresh, second in points Nathan Green, third in points J.J. Schafer, fourth in points Justin Oberlin, and seventh in points Danny Adams are also currently eligible for the Chase by points and attendance.
To date, an additional $1300 in bonus cash has been posted by several Mt. Lawn drivers. LJ Lines, Ellis Herbert, Jeff Lane, Mike Stone, Rick Rhonemus, Alex Burke, Brandon Mefford in memory of his father William and Bill Hinshaw in memory of his son Scott are among the drivers who have made this possible. The lap awards will be given out on specially designated laps and designated positions on those laps. More details will be announced at the event on Saturday.
Pit Gates open on Saturday at 1pm. Practice is set to begin at 2:30pm with qualifying starting at 4:20pm. The race program will begin after the big wheel races, a nickel scramble and an on track autograph session at 6pm and will include the Bob Fields Memorial 200 for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks. Also in action will be the Mt. Lawn Pro Compacts, Stock Compacts, Thunder Cars and Cage Karts.
