Wimmer Motorsports Leads Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Points
Salem, IN (August 17, 2018) – Outerwears Performance Products is once again sponsoring the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS for the 2018 season. The award will include a $1000 cash bonus and a trophy. Jeff Lane was the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award winner in 2015, the first season for the award. Scott Neal was the award winner in 2016 and Butch VanDoorn the winner in 2017.
The award will be based upon the Chase format that CRA is using to determine its Champions again in 2018. The final four scheduled races will be utilized for the Chase to determine a series Champion and the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award. There are six teams in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Chase currently battling to be in the final four to race in the 47th Annual Winchester 400 to determine the 2018 series Champion and six Crew Chiefs in contention for the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award.
The top five eligible teams Crew Chiefs will be awarded points at each of the four Chase events, 5 for the highest finisher, down to 1 for fifth highest. The Crew Chief earning the most points in the four Chase events will be the 2018 Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award winner.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series had its first 2018 Chase event on Wednesday, August 8th at Kalamazoo Speedway. Wimmer Motorsports leads the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award standings after that first event, with Josh Brock coming home third, the highest finisher of the six Chase Teams. Wimmer Motorsports has been the Crew Chief for Brock throughout the 2018 season with a combination of company founder Chris Wimmer and Travis Sauter being the at the track Crew Chief.
Josh Nelms, Crew Chief for Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year point’s leader Austin Kunert, is second in the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award standings after Kunert finished seventh at Kalamazoo, second among the Chase contenders. Jon Beach is in third, after finishing in 12th place, third among the Chase contenders. Beach is his own Crew Chief.
Brent Jack, Crew Chief for son Hunter Jack, is in fourth place in the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award standings. Kyle Jones, Crew Chief for 2017 series Champion and Rookie of the Year Logan Runyon, is in fifth place. Carl Holten, Crew Chief for Greg Van Alst is in sixth place.
The Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award will be presented at the 2018 CRA Awards Banquet, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown at Union Station on Friday, January 11th, 2019. The second ARCA/CRA Super Series Chase event will be Monday, September 3rd at Winchester Speedway.
