Atkinson Gets the Win at Anderson and Locks Himself into Winchester Championship Event
Salem, IN (September 17, 2018) – Former Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS Champion Jason Atkinson got his 12th all-time series win Saturday night at Anderson Speedway, passing early leader Andrew Teepe on lap 59 and holding off several challenges over three restarts in the last four laps to get his first series victory of the 2018 season and locking himself into the series Chase for the Championship finally.
Teepe led the first 58 laps with Atkinson, Danny Adams, Travis Burge, Jimmy Kirby III and Jacob McElfresh all jockeying for position behind him.
Atkinson moved back into the second spot on a lap 20 restart with an inside pass of McElfresh in turn three and stayed glued to Teepe’s rear bumper.
Following a spin by Kirby on lap 59 while battling for the lead, gave Atkinson the opportunity that he needed to use the high line on the restart to pass Teepe entering turn one and grab the lead. Atkinson had to survive three more restarts to get the win. With the win, Atkinson is the first Chase for the Championship driver to lock himself into the Championship event at Winchester Speedway on October 13th, as long as he competes in the series next event at Lucas Oil Raceway. Atkinson is the ninth different series winner in the nine series events so far in 2018. For his pass of Teepe to get the lead, Atkinson picked up the Racer Parts Wholesale Sweet Move of the Race Award.
Adams came back from an incident with J.J. Schafer on lap 24 to drive to the runner-up finish, passing Teepe for the second position on lap 74. Adams earned the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. In the three CRA Street Stock races at Anderson Speedway in 2018, Adams has recorded two second place finishes and scored his first career win. Adams was the second highest finishing series Chase driver in the event.
Anderson Speedway Street Stock points leader Travis Burge finished in third for car owner Josh Poore. Kirby III rebounded from his spin to finish in fourth, third among the series Chase drivers. Teepe hung on to finish in fifth place, fourth among the series Chase drivers.
The next event for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks will be the third Chase for the Championship event on Sunday, September 30th, part of the Fall Brawl at Lucas Oil Raceway. For more information on all the CRA series go to www.cra-racing.com.
