Wimmer Motorsports Wins 2018 Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award
Salem, IN (October 17, 2018) – Wimmer Motorsports has won the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS for the 2018 season. Wimmer Motorsports, with founder Chris Wimmer and Travis Sauter, were the Crew Chief tandem for Josh Brock, who was crowned the ARCA/CRA Super Series 2018 Champion the past Sunday in the 47th Annual Winchester 400. The Wisconsin natives teamed up during the season to help Brock get his first series win in May at Anderson Speedway, then guided him to his first ever CRA Championship.
The award was based upon the Chase for the Championship format that CRA used to determine its Champions again in 2018. The final four scheduled races were utilized to determine the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award based upon a points system for the Chase teams finish in those four events.
Wimmer Motorsports accumulated 18 points over those four races. They were the highest finishing Chase team in the first Chase event at Kalamazoo Speedway on August 8th, third highest in the second Chase event on Labor Day at Winchester, bounced back to finish the highest in the third Chase event at Toledo Speedway on September 15th. The team finished highest for the third time in the Chase events in last Sunday’s Winchester 400 to claim the 2018 series Championship.
Josh Nelms, Crew Chief for Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year Austin Kunert, finished second in points for the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award. He totaled 16 points over the four events, which included being the highest Chase finisher in the Winchester Labor Day event. Nelm’s team finished second in the Championship Chase for the series.
Brent Jack, Crew Chief for son Hunter Jack, finished in third place in the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award points, with a total of 13 points over the four Chase events. Jon Beach, Crew Chief for himself, finished in fourth place with nine points.
Wimmer Motorsports will be officially presented the 2018 Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award at the 2018 CRA Awards Banquet, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown at Union Station on Friday, January 11th, 2019. The award will include a $1000 cash bonus and a trophy.
