Two-Time CRA All-Stars Tour Champ to Make Rattler Debut
Special from Speed51.com – Two-time defending JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour champion Jack Dossey III made his first big venture outside Champion Racing Association (CRA) competition last December at the Snowball Derby, when he finished 17th after being the last car to race his way in through the last chance race. Following that impressive outing, he will now head south for another crown jewel race: the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway.
The Indianapolis native is making the jump to full-time ARCA/CRA Super Series competition in 2019 and part of his preparation includes competing in races he has never been to before. The Rattler 250 will be the start to his 2019 season as he gets ready for his rookie season in the ARCA/CRA Super Series and another trip to Pensacola, Florida for the Snowball Derby in December.
“We were going to go to Cordele for SpeedFest again for the third year in a row, but we decided to try something different and go somewhere we had not been to yet,” Dossey told Speed51.com. “It’s a possibility we go to new races this year. We’re going to run full-time CRA Super Series and I would like to try and get some Blizzard races at Five Flags Speedway to prepare for the 2019 Snowball Derby.”
While it may be Dossey’s first trip to the Kinston, Alabama oval, he does come with experience in long-distance races. He has a fourth-place finish in the 2017 Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway (IN) to his credit, as well as four starts in the Winchester 400.
Dossey has been relying on his past experience in big races, as well as video to prepare himself for his first time at South Alabama Speedway. He feels confident it will be a track he can quickly adjust to.
“I’m using my past experience from these long-distance races and I’m studying different video footage. From what I’m seeing, I think we’ll have some fun down there. It seems to be pretty fast, which is what I like.”
Dossey is one of four Late Model drivers also entered for the Pro Late Model Baby Rattler 125 on Saturday night, where the reigning JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour champion can be considered one of the favorites going into the race. He says the extra seat time will help him come Sunday in the Rattler.
“I think the more track time you can get at a new place is always a good thing. Our Super Late Model will be top priority, but I definitely think the more laps you can get at a track, the better off you’ll be.”
Dossey is looking to have a strong run at the Rattler, but the most important item on his team’s agenda is to have fun while getting away from the Indiana cold. If his Sunday afternoon ends in a date with the infamous rattlesnake, he is ready and unafraid of it. The rest of his team, though, is a different story.
“I hope to have a strong, competitive run in the Rattler, and most importantly, have fun during the whole trip.
“My entire team is terrified (of the rattlesnake), but I’m not afraid as long as we meet on good terms!”
