Marcum Wins Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Season Opener at Anderson Speedway
Salem, IN (April 14, 2019) – In dominating style, Morristown, Indiana’s Jeff Marcum won Saturday night’s Talecris Plasma Resources 75 at Anderson Speedway, the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS season opening event.
“We tried something different with the car,” Marcum said. “It didn’t work out very well on the super car last weekend here, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The crew always gives me a good car and I get the fun part of driving it. Tommy (Cook) is always tough and Billy (Hutson) is improving all the time.”
Marcum won two out of the three series events held at Anderson Speedway in 2018 and was the Triple Crown Champion and is the a three-time Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model Champion, and he showed his mastery of the fast quarter mile speedway Saturday night.
Aaron Pierce grabbed the early lead but was black flagged for jumping the initial event start, was passed by Marcum on lap nine, before retiring from the event on the first caution. Marcum had to fight off the challenge’s of 2007 series Champion Billy Hutson first, then Tommy Cook, including five restarts for cautions. At the end Marcum would take the checkers almost three seconds in front of Cook. For holding off those challenges, Marcum received the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award.
Cook would finish in second. Hutson finished in third and was the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier. R.J. Norton Jr. finished in fourth place. Zachary Tinkle would come back from being involved in two yellows to finish in fifth place, earning the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award.
Veteran Illinois racer Joe Cooksey finished in sixth place. Daniel Adams would come from his last place starting position to finish in seventh, earning the Spillers Towing Hardcharger Award. Neil McClelland finished in eighth place, rookie Brian Demland in ninth place with Kent Carson rounding out the top ten.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman next event will be on the 3/8’s mile track at Baer Field Motorsports Park on Saturday, May 11th. More information on all the CRA Series is available at www.cra-racing.com.
