Kalamazoo Klash XXVII up Next for ARCA/CRA Super Series
Salem, IN (August 2, 2019) – The ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will head back to Michigan for the annual Kalamazoo Klash 125, this Wednesday, August 7th as part of the Kalamazoo Klash XXVII at the famed Kalamazoo Speedway, located just outside Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Kalamazoo Klash is one of the top Outlaw Super Late Model events in the nation held each year at Kalamazoo, this will be the ARCA/CRA Super Series sixth time being a part of this huge event.
This will be the ninth series event at Kalamazoo Speedway, Fred Campbell got the win in the first ever series event held there in 2002, Andy Ponstein got the win in 2005 and Brian Campbell got the win in the series event in 2006. NASCAR Star Kyle Busch got the win in the inaugural CRA Kalamazoo Klash 125 event in 2014. Ali Kern came away with the win in 2015’s event, getting her first ever ARCA/CRA Super Series victory. Brian Campbell went back to victory lane in 2016. Two time series Champion Travis Braden got the win in 2017. Three-time ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Johnny VanDoorn got the win in last seasons event.
Campbell leads a list of former CRA winners at Kalamazoo that are entered for Wednesday’s race. Campbell is tied for the series lead in wins this season with two so far, including a win in the Money in the Bank 150 event at Berlin Raceway on June 10th and a win at Toledo Speedway on July 30th. Campbell now has 29 career series victories, putting him just two behind all-time series winner Scott Hantz heading into Wednesday night’s event.
VanDoorn is also entered seeking his second series win of the season and trying to become the first driver to get back to back Kalamazoo Klash series wins. VanDoorn won the July 15th Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway. That win moved him into third place on the series all-time wins list with 23, behind Campbell and Hantz.
2017 winner Braden is also entered as he looks to pick up his first series win of 2019 after getting second place finishes this season at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, The Money in the Bank 150 and at Toledo Speedway. Braden has been racing full-time with the ARCA Menards Series the last two seasons and has not been able to get behind the wheel of a late model as much as he would like.
Wednesday’s Kalamazoo Klash 125 will be the last regular season points event before the 2019 Chase for the Championship begins at Berlin Raceway on August 17th. 2017 series Champion and current series points leader Josh Brock, Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year point leader Jack Dossey III and VanDoorn are all locked into the Chase for the Championship by virtue of their wins this season. Dossey III got his first ever series win in the series season opener at Anderson Speedway. Brock won the North/South Late Model Shootout at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in April and won the series last event at Baer Field Motorsports Park on July 27th. Brock and Dossey III are entered for Kalamazoo.
Also, currently entered for Kalamazoo and in the Chase for the Championship by points and participation are Hunter Jack, Greg Van Alst, 2017 series Champion and Rookie of the Year Logan Runyon and 2018 Rookie of the Year Austin Kunert.
Other top CRA drivers entered include 2014 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion and current JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour points leader Dan Leeck, Carson Hocevar the 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Rookie of the Year and won a rookie record three times in series events in 2017, 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event winner Kyle Crump, Trever McCoy, James Krueger, Justin Schroeder, ARCA/CRA Super Series event winner Harold Fair Jr. and teammate Hayden Sprague.
There are several drivers from the Kalamazoo/Berlin area entered, many of whom compete at Kalamazoo or in the Berlin Raceway Late Models and in selected CRA events including Kalamazoo Champion Phil Bozell, Tyler Hufford, Jerry Andrews, Jordan Dahlke and 2019 Berlin feature event winner Evan Shotko.
On Wednesday pit gates will open at 10am. Practice will begin at 1:30pm, with qualifying at 4pm. There will be an Autograph Session with all the drivers competing Wednesday night at 5:30pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the Kalamazoo Klash 125 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series. The Kalamazoo Klash XXVII will follow the ARCA/CRA Super Series race.
