Pendleton Gets Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Win at Kil-Kare Raceway
Salem, IN (August 5, 2019) – Grove City, Ohio veteran racer Chad Pendleton made the most of his Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS debut by getting a hard-fought win in Sunday’s event at Kil-Kare Raceway, located just outside of Xenia, Ohio. Pendleton is a former state of Ohio NASCAR Champion and Columbus Motor Speedway Late Model Champion. The event, which was a co-promotion between CRA, the Vores Compact Touring Series and Shadybowl Speedway promoter Rick Young, was the only racing event on the oval track at Kil-Kare Raceway in 2019 and attracted a good crowd on a warm Ohio Sunday afternoon and evening.
“Man this was a good win,” remarked Pendleton in victory lane. “I have to thank a lot of people, we got this car together to have some fun and race a little more. My guys put in a lot of work on this car and it paid off today. I hated seeing those guy wreck and tear up their cars, but we avoided it. The car didn’t fire off good on that last restart, but we held off Buck (Purtee) to get the win! I also want to thank all the fans who came out to support this event at Kil-Kare!”
Josh Poore grabbed the early lead at the drop of the green flag from his pole starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Jason Mahaffey drew a six for the inverted start. Poore led until suddenly pulling off the track on lap 25 with mechanical issues, handing the lead to Pendleton.
Pendleton held on to the lead on a couple of restarts, but then Mahaffey grabbed the lead on a restart from his outside front-row starting position on lap 39 and led until contact by Mahaffey across Pendleton’s nose while the two were racing hard for position, which resulted in Mahaffey spinning and collecting Jacob Muncy and Jim Lewis Jr. who were racing for third and fourth. All three cars made hard contact with the outside wall in turn three ending the night for all three competitors.
That gave the lead back to Pendleton who was able to hold off a hard charging Purtee to get the win, his first ever CRA win. Jake McElfresh was the top finishing CRA regular in third place, coming from his ninth place starting position earning the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award. Jake Hinton came from his 11th place starting position to finish fourth and picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award and the TCI Hardcharger Award. J.J. Schafer picked up a hard earned fifth place finish.
The next Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS event will be this Saturday at Anderson Speedway, the 200 lap third event in the Four Crown Series. More event information and information on all the CRA Series is available at www.cra-racing.com.
