Wimmer Motorsports Continues to Lead Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Points
Salem, IN (October 3, 2019) – Outerwears Performance Products is once again sponsoring the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS for the 2019 season. The award will include a $1000 cash bonus and a trophy. Jeff Lane was the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award winner in 2015, the first season for the award. Scott Neal was the award winner in 2016, Butch VanDoorn the winner in 2017 and Wimmer Motorsports, Crew Chief for 2018 series Champion Josh Brock, won the award in 2018.
The award is based upon the Chase for the Championship format that CRA is using to determine its Champions again in 2019. The final four scheduled races are being utilized for the Chase to determine a series Champion and the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award. There were six teams eligible for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Chase for the Championship at the first Chase event at Berlin Raceway on August 17th, all those six teams are eligible for the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award.
The top five eligible teams Crew Chiefs will be awarded points at each of the four Chase events, 5 for the highest finisher, down to 1 for fifth highest. The Crew Chief earning the most points in the four Chase events will be the 2019 Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award winner.
After the first three Chase for the Championship events at Berlin Raceway on August 17th, at Winchester Speedway on September 2nd, and at Toledo Speedway on September 21st, Wimmer Motorsports, Crew Chief for Josh Brock, continues to lead the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award standings with 13 points in those three events. Brock was the second highest Chase finisher at Berlin, the top finisher with his third-place finish at Winchester and was the second highest Chase finisher at the Toledo event.
Butch VanDoorn, Crew Chief for three time series Champion Johnny VanDoorn, is now in second after winning the Toledo event, he now has 10 points. Jack Dossey III, who is his own Crew Chief in 2019, and Van Alst Motorsports, a team effort Crew Chiefing Greg Van Alst, are tied for third place in the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with 7 points. Brent Jack, Crew Chief for his son Hunter Jack, is in fifth place with 4 points.
The Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award will be presented at the 2019 CRA Awards Banquet, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown at Union Station on Friday, January 3rd, 2020. The series next event will be the Winchester 400 presented by CB Fabricating on Sunday, October 13th, the Season Championship race for the series.
