Lucas Gets First Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models Feature Win at Salem Speedway
Salem, Indiana (May 17, 2021): 12-year-old Proctorville, Ohio racer Carson Lucas made a great pass for the lead with two laps to go to get his first ever Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models feature win Saturday night on the quarter mile track at historic Salem Speedway. The event was the first event of the season for the Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models and the first time the series had an event at Salem Speedway.
The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Junior Late Models is in their third season focusing on a youth movement for short track stock car racing that saw 10 to 15-year-old drivers compete amongst themselves for both experience and recognition in full size late models with an economical drive train and suspension alternatives.
12-year-old Austin, Indiana native Kaden White was the Fast Qualifier in his first ever event in a late model and with the series. Lucas was the winner of the eight-lap heat race, his first ever heat race win with the series.
White and Lucas battled hard throughout the feature event for first place. Lucas made slight contact with White, spinning him out with just a handful of laps to go. On the restart after the caution, Lucas again applied a lot of pressure to White, White went a little high in turn four coming to two laps to go giving room for Lucas to make the pass on the inside. Lucas went on to get the win over White by less than a second in only his third ever event with the series.
“It feels really good to get my first CRA win,” remarked an excited Lucas in victory lane. “I want to apologize to the 12 car for getting into him and spinning him out, I was just trying to make a clean pass. I have to thank my parents and everyone who helped with this car. I also must thank all my sponsors for their support, with out their help I wouldn’t be out here racing!”
