VanDoorn Wins 2021 Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award
Salem, IN (October 21, 2021) – John VanDoorn, Crew Chief for Redbud 400 and Battle at Berlin 150 winner Kyle Crump, is the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS for the 2021 season. Crump finished fourth of the Chase for the Championship drivers in last Sunday’s Winchester 400 Season Championship event for the series, but with the win at the Berlin Chase for the Championship opener and a second-place finish in the Toledo Speedway Chase for the Championship event, VanDoorn accumulated enough points to claim his first Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS during its 2021 25th Anniversary Season Presented by Team Construction.
2021 was the seventh straight season that Outerwears has sponsored the award, past winners included Jeff Lane in 2015, Scott Neal in 2016, John’s brother Butch in 2017, Wimmer Motorsports in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 there was the first ever split award with Willie Allen Crew Chief for 2016 series Champion Cody Coughlin and Jimmy Tucker, Crew Chief for Michael Simko splitting the award.
The award was based upon the Chase for the Championship format that CRA used to determine its Champions again in 2021. The final four scheduled races were utilized to determine the Outerwears Crew Chief of the Year Award based upon a points system for the Chase teams finish in those four events.
Kevin Hamlin, Crew Chief for 2016 series Champion Cody Coughlin finished in second, two points behind VanDoorn. Coughlin claimed his fourth JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance last Saturday at Winchester Speedway.
Brent Jack, Crew Chief for newly crowned 2021 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Hunter Jack finished in third, with Eric Hagen, Crew Chief for Scotty Tomasik. finishing in fourth.
VanDoorn will receive a $1000 cash bonus and a special designed trophy from Outerwears.
