Teepe Hold Off Atkinson to Get Third Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Win of the Season Saturday
Salem, IN (September 18, 2022) – Andrew Teepe claimed his third Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS victory of the season Saturday night at Anderson Speedway. Teepe had to hold off three time series Champion Jason Atkinson for the final 65 circuits to get his second series victory in a row and series leading third of the 2022 season.
Dawson Phillips took the lead at the start on First Responders night Saturday thanks to the invert of five following Allstar Performance qualifying that saw Atkinson set fast time.
Teepe grabbed the second spot from the second row followed by Blaine Akin, Atkinson and series Championship points leader Dalton Connor.
Teepe made an inside pass of Phillips entering turn three on lap 10 and a lap later Atkinson was glued to his rear bumper.
Connor moved into the third spot on lap 20 and the three front runners broke away from the rest of the field.
Lap after lap Atkinson was waiting for Teepe to make a mistake, but the Indianapolis driver was hitting his marks entering and exiting the corners.
Atkinson made a final attempt with three laps remaining, racing down on the inside grass coming off the fourth corner but to no avail.
Teepe scored the win followed by Atkinson in second and Connor in third. The win was Teepe’s fourth all-time series win.
“I was just running my race,” Teepe said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane of having Atkinson in his rear bumper. “I was hitting my marks in the corner, and it worked out.”
Atkinson said it was close racing with Teepe.
“There were a few times I decided to let him go,” he said. “I didn’t want to tear up any race cars.”
Connor said he was pleased with the third place run leading into the championship race at Winchester next month.
The race ran all 75 laps caution free. Akin finished in fourth place with Jake McElfresh finishing in fifth.
